Welcome to Spectratox
Spectratox Ltd is a Contract Research Organisation (CRO)
that provides
• clinical phototoxicity studies
• in-vitro phototoxicity & photogenotoxicity assessment
for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
Clinical phototoxicity studies involve administration of new drugs and
medications to paid volunteers in a randomised controlled fashion. Small
areas of the volunteers’ skin are exposed to specific quantities of
light and skin reactions are assessed and compared with baseline levels.
Laboratory investigations including spectral analysis and phototoxicity
assessment of compounds under investigation are also available.
Spectratox Ltd is a new venture, launched in 2008 driven by the expertise
and reputation of Professor James Ferguson. It operates to the highest industrial,
regulatory and ethical standards, offering first class phototoxicity testing
within residential facilities.
The majority of clinical studies are conducted jointly with an on-site
clinical research organisation, Chiltern (Early phase) Ltd [http:www.chiltern.com/cep/],
who have been conducting the residential volunteer component of these phototoxicity
studies since 1989.
If you are interested in participating in paid volunteer studies in Dundee
please see the Volunteering page.
The sole shareholder of Spectratox Ltd is the Photobiology Trust, a charitable
organisation devoted entirely to the promotion of dermatological research,
education and clinical care. Thus any surplus funds are used for the benefit
of patients. Spectratox is a limited company and is independent of the National
Health Service. |
